I came to imaging science from two directions at once. As a Computer Engineer, I needed to understand light. As a professional photographer, I needed to understand signals. Those two paths converged into a genuine fascination with the space where optics, hardware, and software have to agree on what reality looks like.
For four years, I've run a professional photography and video production business, owning every stage of the color pipeline — from RAW capture through final delivery in Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve — while managing client relationships from initial consultation through delivery. That work taught me that image quality isn't just a technical metric; it's a conversation between the sensor, the processing, and the person on the other end who needs to trust the result.
At NASA, I brought that same instinct into a research setting, analyzing Optical Coherence Tomography images to study how spaceflight affects astronaut vision — precise, high-stakes work where accuracy had real consequences. That combination of a photographer's eye, an engineer's discipline, and a scientist's approach to measurement is what I bring to technical work today. I'm currently building a from-scratch ISP pipeline in Python and NumPy, because I believe the best way to understand a system is to build it yourself — and the best way to deliver value from that system is to be able to explain it clearly to the people who depend on it.

Experience

  • NASA Johnson Space Center: Analyzed Optical Coherence Tomography images to study structural changes in astronaut eyes resulting from extended spaceflight. Applied Python for data processing and database optimization in a high-precision research environment.
  • Harris County: Architected and built CAMS, a mission-critical full-stack web application for criminal justice case audit management, using .NET 8, C#, and SQL Server.
  • Brandon Hernandez Photography: Managed end-to-end imaging workflows across professional photography and 4K video production. Full color pipeline ownership including RAW processing, color calibration, LUT design, and color space management in Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve.

Education

I hold both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. My academic career focused on the intersection of hardware and software, providing me with the rigorous mathematical and signal-processing foundation required for advanced Image Quality Engineering and ISP evaluation.
